Question 4:
How are the brackets made and decided?
Answer:
All brackets are built first and foremost by age. Any special circumstances or accommodations For any player, team, or family are considered on a first come basis. Teams such as those with less than a playoff/championship record for the season can contact the tournament directly for brackets for more of a balanced approach etc… Only the coach, team Manager or a league official can contact the Tournament Bracketing Committee with these concerns or considerations. Championship brackets at Pigskin are in place to literally Crown Area, State and Western U.S. Champions. These brackets consider some of the best teams in their age groups and are not suggested for teams that aren’t coming with less than Playoff or Championship records this season. Teams obviously might not have their season yet completed, but a winning momentum is usually very predictable and, of course, bracketing adjustments as the tournament approaches do happen occasionally when possible, as needed.

Question 5:
If we win both games, what does our team win?
Answer:
If your team wins both games, you would almost always win Gold. The exceptions can and have happened when more than three teams are part of a bracket. If, for instance, a bracket had 4-5 teams and two teams won both games, we would then consider the head to head common opponent. This would then be the point differential that would decide the Gold winner. The Tournament reserves the right and discretion for extenuating circumstances such as a coach telling the Tournament or notifying us during game play that a score “run up” could be possible and he or she has decided against it or he or she has decided to use the opportunity to rotate in some players that haven’t had the playing time of some of the starting and regular.

Question 6:
If we win one game and lose one game, what do we win?
Answer:
This is similar yet can be more complex. If a team wins ONE game and loses ONE, this would usually mean Silver. However, if two teams in the same bracket each win ONE game, then the game against each other (if they played) or the common opponent equation mentioned in answer #5 would apply.

Question 7:

Question 8:
Is this tournament only for teams that have gone to their own league’s Championships?
Answer:
Absolutely not. Just as explained in the answer to Question 4, we have brackets that are designed just for the Teams and families that are looking for the travel experience and memories regardless of record. As mentioned in that previous answer, the more time we are given to accommodate these teams here at the tournament the better. We will absolutely focus on the objective of these families, knowing that the priority is the memory and not necessarily the win. Many teams come with this objective and it is important that we are given as much information up front and as early as possible. This allows us to match these teams together. Often with the coaches knowing in advance as to be able to understand each other.

Question 10:
How many games will we play?
Answer:
All teams will play two (2) games that are bracket play. These games both count towards the Gold, Silver, Bronze placement. Additional games could and have rarely happened that would be necessary as bracketed games. Many teams request additional “pick up” type games. These are facilitated on a “first come, first serve” “as possible” basis. An additional cost to cover officiating is usually split between teams.

Question 11:
Can we play extra games?
Answer:
Yes, additional games are possible as mentioned in the explanation previously for Question 10. In our long 20 year history, we have had some rich history and memories with teams that have traveled from very far off locations such as Alaska, Canada, Mexico City, Minnesota, New Orleans, to name a few. These teams have worked with our team here at Pigskin to participate in two brackets.
While we don’t encourage this much football in 3 days, we certainly understand and have worked with them to make it happen.
**On all these special requests, the earlier we start working together, the better.

Question 12:
Do we have to stay at a host hotel?
Answer:
No, it’s not required but the host hotel has special pricing and arrangements for our participants that take advantage of our long standing relationship. This isn’t just for the room itself and it’s price. Other discounts and offers are presented at Check-in as well as largely discounted Adventure Dome passes offered through the Tournament itself. Your Team Manager should most definitely contact us regarding the offers available to your families. The host hotel helps the Tournament financially by donating for each room and guests that participate with registered rooms and other offers. If you choose to stay elsewhere, the Tournament has placed a simple $10 (ten) dollar replacement fee as to reimburse some of the aforementioned revenue that we would realize from the hosting hotels. This will give you the choice and flexibility of making the best choice for your family. This $10 fee only applies to the player.

Question 13:
When and how do we find out who and when we play?
Answer:
All players must be wristbands and verified by the Tournament Representative and the Teams Manager or Coach or designee with all Birth Certificates. The integrity of the match ups here at Pigskin over the past 20 years, is ONE of our strongest components that have contributed to such a successful and long history. For this reason we will notify the coaches of the first two time slots for Thanksgiving Day on Wednesday night. This has at times been a late notification but we will post the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday schedule ONLY AFTER WE HAVE VERIFIED THE HONESTY OF ALL TEAMS AFTER WEDNESDAY’S CERTIFICATION PROCESS IS COMPLETE. However, the teams that will play Thursday morning games will be notified by phone Wednesday night. We require 3 contact people per Team to insure that proper and successful notification takes place. All parents will be able to wake Thursday (if they haven’t been notified by their Coach of a morning game Wednesday night) and check the website for schedules and Teams, etc... All scheduling is subject to change throughout the tournament due to unforeseen circumstances.
